Syllabi Guidance for Students

Information on this page comes from the Syllabus Regulation, which defines items that must be present (if applicable) in each of your class syllabi. Each section has a number and title, which is reflected here on the left-hand side (eg “2.1 Basic Course Information”) so that you can reference the regulation’s language as well. The questions and other bullet points on the right-hand side offer translations, related questions, and additional helpful information where possible.

If a section isn’t represented in your class syllabus, then it’s not applicable to that class. For example, if there isn’t information about transportation, then you will not be required to provide your own transportation to field trips etc.

If you have any questions about or issues with your syllabus, be sure to contact your instructor! If you need to, you can also take questions to your advisor. The Student Ombuds also provides a space to talk any issues through and find solutions.

As a student you may experience a range of personal issues that can impede learning, such as strained relationships, increased anxiety, alcohol/drug concerns, feeling down, difficulty concentrating and/or lack of motivation. These mental health concerns or stressful events may lead to diminished academic performance and may impact your ability to participate in daily activities. It is very important that you have a support system and that you ask for help when you are struggling. The Counseling Center at NC State offers confidential mental health services for full-time NC State students, including same-day emergency services. Please visit https://counseling.dasa.ncsu.edu/ to get connected.
