Fisheries Sciences (15FSCIM)-no new admits

Description

The minor will provide basic ecological and management knowledge about, and will cultivate an appreciation for, the value of fish resources. The fisheries sciences minor is to provide students, who might pursue careers in related areas of natural resources management, with basic ecological and management knowledge about fisheries resources. Additionally, the minor will provide students majoring in unrelated fields an appreciation for the value of fish resources and the need for sound management.

Requirements

  • Completion of 15-16 credit hours.
  • Overall GPA must be above 2.0.

Required Courses (15-16 credit hours)

  • BIO 420 Introduction to Fisheries Science (3 cr)
  • BIO 423 Intro Fisheries Science Lab (1 cr)
  • BIO 419 Limnology (4 cr)
  • BIO 441 Biology of Fishes (3 cr)
  • BIO 442 Biology of Fishes Lab (1 cr)

AND Choose 1 of the following:

  • FW 221 Conservation of Natural Resources OR BIO 360/ PB 360 Ecology OR FOR 260 Forest Ecology (3 cr)

Admissions and Certification of Minor

Students must have a GPA of 2.0 or above to be admitted into the minor. Any student seeking a minor must consult with the minor advisor on a plan of work and must file the appropriate paperwork to declare the minor through the office of Registration & Records. Declaring minor too late may result in recognition of the minor NOT appearing on student’s final transcript. The fisheries minor is not available to fisheries and wildlife sciences majors.
