Minimum Credit Hours Required for Graduation: 1235,G,H, I

Major/Program Footnotes: Please consult the CHASS Key Points and the “Handbook for Foreign Language Majors” and the Degree Audits for detailed information.

1. History I and II (6 credit hours selected from two groups: History I and History II)
GRP 501 History I – One 3-credit course required from the College-approved History I course list (a 200-level survey course covering a culture significantly different from our own, i.e., ancient or non-Western)
2. GRP 502 History II – One 3-credit course required from the College-approved History II course list (a 200-level survey course covering our own or a similar culture, i.e., United States or other Western Culture)
3. Literature I and II (6 credit hours are met with FLL ED major Literature I and II courses)
4. Social Sciences (Twelve (12) credit hours required from three different disciplines, six (6) must be on GEP-Social Sciences list) Choose from the College approved Social Sciences course list or the following course(s) if completed as part of the Major requirements that may fulfill part or all of this requirement: EDP 304.
5. Foreign Language (FL 200 level Requirement)
Completion of Flx 201 or 202 satisfy the CHASS FL 200 level requirement. All students must take the NC State Placement test upon entering CHASS. Flx 101 and 102 are not for graduation credits, unless they are for languages other than the major.
6. All Education students must pass the Praxis II Subject Area tests.
7. Study Abroad/Internship Abroad
It is strongly recommended that students participate in at least one study abroad experience to a Spanish-speaking country. Please note that no more than 15 hours of transfer credit (from a non-NCSU program) may be applied towards the major. NCSU sponsored programs count as regular coursework. FLG students are required to study abroad no later than the Junior Year.
8. Professional Education Component: A grade of C or above is required for these courses. ED/FL 299 field work is taken the semester after Introduction to 21st Century Teaching (ED 204 and ECI 204).
9. Admission to Candidacy and Professional Year
All FLL Education candidates must be admitted to candidacy by the beginning of the fall semester of Methods Course. All required coursework should be completed prior to student teaching.

E. Interdisciplinary Perspectives (5-6 credit hours)

K. Foreign Language Proficiency– Proficiency at the FL_102 level is required for graduation.
